Thirty three metres beneath London lies a complex of abandoned tube tunnels stretching from Clapham in the south to Belsize Park in the north. Built in the 1940s as part of an aborted Northern Line ‘Express Way’ they sheltered 8000 Londoners during The Blitz before being left to decay for over half a century. Now one section of tunnels has been brought back to life as Growing Underground – a futuristic farm growing tonnes of crops for the capital’s markets, shops and restaurants. The food needs no soil or pesticides, it requires just recycled water, LED lights and a fraction of the space conventional farms use. My report on this future of farming is out now in the latest issue of Popular Mechanics

Books
For every man who has heard those two magic words ‘I’m pregnant’ and immediately thought of two of his own, I wrote a book called the Expectant Dad’s Survival Guide (2010) Published by Vermillion it has become an Amazon Bestseller. Following the success of the Expectant Dad’s Survival Guide I wrote its younger sibling, the New Dad’s Survival Guide (2014) for first-time fathers. It too has been a great success and has since been translated and published in China. Also The Good Guys (2018) 50 Heroes Who Changed The World With Kindness – a life-changing book that shows kids it’s cool to be kind. And in May 2020 Bloomsbury/Green Tree published my new book Dadding It: Landmark Moments In Your Life As A Father: And How To Survive Them

Special Projects: parkrun; a celebration
I produced the copy and interviews for the book parkrun: a celebration (published in 2015). It was such a joy creating this coffee table book that I went out and bought a coffee table to put it on. I’d love to say it was all my own work but the following exceptional co-contributors would be very upset if I did; photographers Paul Duke and Julian Ward and designer Paul Warrington.
Special Projects: The Movers List
I sourced a long list of over 100 amateur athletes, fitness influencers and community champions from around the UK for the Lucozade Sport Mover List – a book and online feature celebrating the unsung champions of fitness and activity. Once the judging panel had selected their top 50 I interviewed them all and provided the copy for the project.
